We’ve all heard how high-intensity exercise can rev up that metabolism for hours after the exercise is over. I know I’ve believed it for years. New research is saying that it might not happen that way. Check out this article from the New York Times:

According to the research, it all comes down to calorie balance. You’ve got to burn off more than you take in if you want to lose weight.
So track your calories, do your cardio and do some kind of strength training. In fact, if you are in Boone, come join one of my QuickFit classes. It’ll give you both a cardio and a strength training workout, plus, it’ll burn lots of calories!
Come join me for a 30 minute QuickFit class at the Wellness Center tomorrow morning. The class will be a series of 15 exercises done for 1 minute each. We’ll do two rounds for a total of 30 minutes. It’s a tough, total body conditioning class that involves exercises such as push-ups, squat thrusts, mtn climbers, bodyweight rows, sit-ups, lunges, jumps, etc. Just warm up a few minutes before you drop in, then stay as long as you like.Check out the video to get an idea of how the class goes.

There is no getting around it, you want results you’ve got to work hard. It doesn’t matter if it’s a race or a workout, you’ve got to push yourself to see improvement. I’ve got a few phrases I repeat over & over to myself when my body is wanting to quit and it does help. A couple of my triathlete friends use the phrase “Head down, ugly faces” to help them push through it. (Considering one of them just competed in the World Championships I’ll have to say that this phrase works) Check out this NY Times Article, then I’d like to hear from you.
